About The Project
This classroom project was an Ikat workshop which involved different activities of studying traditional ikat techniques across the world, conceptualizing, designing and executing the designs under the guidance of traditional ikat experts.
Ikat being one of the famous Indian textiles, I wanted to combine it with another Indian art form. My inspiration for the ikat weaving was the very famous dance form of Orissa, that is the Odissi dance.

KADAMB- Concept I:
Inspired by the Headgear of the Odissi dancers, which represents the flower - Kadamb. The Headgear is one of the most important and significant jewellery of the Odissi costume.  It is a warp based ikkat fabric.
KAMARBANDH - Concept II
The waistband (kamarbandh) is another important jewellery, which sets the costume of odissi different from other classical dance costumes.
MUDRA - Concept III
The movements in Odissi are built around the two basic postures (Mudra) of the Chowk and the Tribhanga. The chowk is a position imitating a square - a very masculine stance with the weight of the body equally balanced. The tribhanga is a very feminine stance where the body is deflected at the neck, torso and the knees.
